How to recognise it
Discrete brown, black or grey spots or blotches on leaves, sometimes with a yellow halo, distinct from the powdery or rust-coloured coatings of mildew and rust.
Life cycle and conditions
A broad group of fungi favoured by damp, humid conditions and overcrowded, poorly ventilated planting; spreads by rain splash from fallen or infected leaves.
Prevention
Improve airflow through spacing and pruning, avoid overhead watering, clear fallen infected leaves promptly.
How to treat it

Remove affected leaves as they appear; cultural improvements to airflow and hygiene are usually completely sufficient.
🧪 CHEMICAL · IF YOU CHOOSE
Chemical treatment isn't usually necessary for general leaf spot — good airflow and hygiene resolve the great majority of cases.
