How to recognise it
Blackened, collapsed shoots and flower buds, with a grey fuzzy mould developing on affected tissue in wet weather.
Life cycle and conditions
A form of Botrytis favoured by cool, wet spring weather, particularly on overcrowded or previously damaged growth.
Prevention
Space plants for good airflow; clear away old foliage in autumn to reduce overwintering spores.
