How to recognise it
Caterpillar-like larvae (though not true caterpillars) rapidly stripping leaves to a skeleton of veins, often in clusters.
Life cycle and conditions
Several genus-specific sawflies affect UK gardens (rose, gooseberry, iris, honeysuckle among others); larvae most active from late spring through summer.
Prevention
Check susceptible plants regularly during the active season — damage can progress very quickly once larvae hatch.
How to treat it
