How to recognise it
Scorched, spotted and distorted leaves and flowers, particularly in wet springs, with small dark spots on leaves that spread quickly.
Life cycle and conditions
A fungal disease favoured by wet spring weather, spreading rapidly between crowded plants; spores survive in the soil and on infected bulbs.
Prevention
Avoid planting tulips in the same spot for a few years after an outbreak; space bulbs generously for airflow.
How to treat it
