Repotting houseplants
4 steps
How to do it
- 1Repot in spring as growth resumes, not during winter dormancy.
- 2Choose a pot only one size up — too large a jump holds excess moisture the roots can't use, risking rot.
- 3Gently tease out any tightly circling roots before repotting.
- 4Water in well and keep out of strong direct sun for a week or two while the plant settles.
COMMON MISTAKE
Repotting into a much bigger pot 'to save doing it again soon' — the extra unused compost stays wet for too long and can rot the roots.
